Aurora

Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, Royal Conservatory of Music

Toronto, CAN - 2010

On October 2, 2010, just one month after the opening of Hylozoic Ground in Venice, PBAI mounted Aurora, a feature piece for Scotiabank Nuit Blanche at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.

The work consisted of over 3000 ‘cells’, each comprised of an LED coupled to a trembling feather-like element that was actuated using cellular phone vibrating motors. These elements were suspended in a massive, 40′ tall ‘light-curtain’ suspended above head height that played out complex algorithms with emergent behaviors across the 3000 unit cell matrix. Aurora was met with overwhelmingly positive response, garnering the People’s Choice Award for 2010.
