Reflexive Membranes

With Diane Willow and Stephen Wood

Cambridge, Ontario, CAN - 2004

Reflexive Membranes was developed with Diane Willow and Stephen Wood. The work acts like an artificial reef with mechanical functions that offer active exchanges with building occupants. Waves of hybrid artificial behaviour result. The structure employs reflexive functions involving arrays of sensors and lightweight actuators operating valves and ‘whisker’ sensors.

The work was developed in association with the Media Lab at MIT and the Daniel Langlois Foundation for Art and Technology.
